Although we receive some of our funding through municipal contracts and modest fees for service, our single largest source of funding is philanthropy. It’s your generosity that creates a brighter future for animals throughout our county.
Your support allows us to shelter and adopt tens of thousands of pets in need while developing innovative lifesaving programs, serving as a national leader in animal welfare and maintain the highest standards for compassion and care for our community — The SDHS Way.
Because of you, lives are transformed every single day.
Without your support, we couldn’t operate our Jim Lester Kitten Nursery — where more than 30,000 vulnerable neonate kittens have been cared for to date.
We couldn’t run our Behavior Center — where hundreds of dogs and cats with severe behavior challenges find healing each year.
We couldn’t give more than 10,000 injured and orphaned wild animals a second chance through our Project Wildlife program.
We couldn’t support dogs through 10 rounds of chemotherapy, or repair a bobcat’s fractured jaw or train the next generation of shelter medicine professionals through our Pilar & Chuck Bahde Center for Shelter Medicine.
We couldn’t Stay at Zero euthanasia of healthy or treatable shelter pets.
And we couldn’t be here for the more than 40,000 animals — pets and wildlife alike — who rely on us every year.
