Required Service
Fulfill your required or mandated service hours while making a difference for animals by volunteering with San Diego Humane Society.
We invite you to give back to the pets in our care while completing your mandated service requirements.
Up to 15 hours per month:
The fastest and easiest way to fulfill mandated service hours is to complete DIY packets from home. You can earn up to 15 hours per month creating enrichment items and supplies for our shelter pets and wildlife. Once your hours are complete, our Volunteer Engagement team will email your hours verification letter within five days of receiving your request.
15+ hours or ongoing service:
If you need more than 15 hours of service or prefer to volunteer for multiple months in a row, please apply to become a volunteer at one of our shelter campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside or San Diego. In your volunteer application, specify that you are applying to complete mandated service and tell us how many hours you need by what date. Availability can vary by campus, but you can expect to hear from our team with an update within two weeks of submitting your application.
These are the only options available for mandated service at San Diego Humane Society — there are no opportunities with other programs such as Project Wildlife, Community Engagement, Emergency Response Team, etc.
