One-Day Shelter Service
Want to get a peek at what it's like to volunteer at San Diego Humane Society? Sign up to serve for a single shift — no ongoing commitment needed!
We invite you to give back to the pets in our care through a one-time volunteer shift at San Diego Humane Society!
If you want to make an impact for animals but can't commit to an ongoing shift, or if you'd like to get a feel for volunteering before joining us on a regular basis, these one-day shelter service shifts are for you. Shifts are 2.5 hours long and include a brief introduction to San Diego Humane Society before jumping into the assigned projects of the day. Training will be provided on the spot — no homework needed!
Projects will be assigned during the volunteer shift and may include the following:
Yard Cleaning
Help give our pups a fresh and safe place to play by spraying soap, scrubbing and hosing down turf so the yards are sparkly clean for their next playtime. Watch activity preview.
Food Prep
Our dogs love a midday snack! Feeding all the animals in our care is quite a feat, so we'd love your help preparing as many doggy meatballs as possible. This will ensure each of our dogs can enjoy full bellies as they wind down for the day.
Other Shelter Tasks
The shelter environment can be unpredictable, and our teams are always ready to jump in to help with our highest needs. For volunteers, that could be prepping supplies, folding clean laundry, assembling adoption packets or a variety of other projects that would benefit our animals and staff most!
One-day shelter service shifts will be made available as our shelter and program needs arise.
