Kodiak's Story
Adopted from San Diego Campus
Hello,
I wanted to share a little blurb about my Rottweiler/Australian Cattle Dog named Kodiak that my fiancé and I rescued from the San Diego Humane Society and also about my experience with the San Diego Humane Society as a whole.
In November of 2014, I went to SDHS to have my mini lop rabbit put down. His name was Pekachu and he was around 8 years old. After he had suffered about 5 strokes and was completely paralyzed on his left side, I realized he was no longer able to live a happy and full life. It was probably one of the most difficult things I have ever had to do. This little guy was my first pet as an adult, and had gotten me through some tough years at UCSD. The staff was so lovely, so kind, and so patient with me. They treated me with respect and made this really horrible day just a little more bearable.
Fast forward almost exactly a year, and I found myself back at the San Diego Humane Society. My fiancé Carlos and I had been wanting to rescue a puppy for quite a while, but were waiting for just the right one. When I saw Kodiak on the website, I immediately left work to meet him. I waited almost 45 minutes to meet him and his siblings, and the second I saw him, it was love at first sight (literally). There was a mom and kid visiting with the puppies, and I knew I had better act quick to make sure his was mine. I think I literally yelled this one is mine! while scooping him up. Less then an hour later, he was following me around the SDHS store, picking out his bed and toys.
Kodiak has quadrupled in size, and is the most loving, handsome, little guy. He’s what we call a ‘drive by licker’ meaning that he gives kisses to all the neighborhood dogs during his walks. For Halloween, we dressed him up in a skull and bones sweater, which he has now totally outgrown. He loves hikes, his blankie, and little dogs. (he still thinks he’s little and tries to be a lap dog, unsuccessfully). We really could not be happier.
Thank you, San Diego Humane Society!
Warmly,
Merry L.
