Community Spay & Neuter

Our Community Spay/Neuter Program offers a limited number of spay and neuter appointments at our San Diego, El Cajon, Escondido and Oceanside Campuses.

Eligibility requirements for services include:

  • Residence within San Diego County or Imperial County.
  • Priority will be given to those with household incomes under $100k/year.

Please note: The forms below are to request an appointment only. Your appointment is not confirmed until you receive a confirmation email from San Diego Humane Society staff.

San Diego Campus appointments (Wednesday-Sunday)
El Cajon Campus appointments (7 days per week)
Escondido Campus appointments (Tuesday-Friday and Sundays)
Oceanside Campus appointments (7 days per week)

A limited number of spay/neuter appointments are also available through our Community Veterinary Clinic.

Please note that appointments fill up quickly. New appointments are added every Tuesday for the following two weeks (excluding major holidays). If there are no appointments available, please check back on Tuesdays after 12 p.m. for new openings. 

All cancellations MUST be made at least 24 hours in advance. Please note that appointments at the San Diego Campus are subject to a $26 deposit that will be nonrefundable in the event of late cancellation or no-show.

Spay/Neuter Fees

  • $230 Female Dog spay
  • $220 Male Dog neuter
  • $175 Female Cat spay
  • $165 Male Cat neuter

As needed or applicable:

  • Cryptorchid, inguinal: $70
  • Cryptorchid, abdominal: $140
  • Cardiac/brachycephalic protocol : $60

Additional Services Available During Surgery Appointment

  • Dewormer (Pyrantel): $12
  • Rabies (1 and 3 year): $30
  • Intranasal Bordetella: $30
  • DHPP (Dog): $30
  • FVRCP (Cat): $30
  • Canine Influenza: $35
  • Flea Treatment for Dogs (Provecta Advanced): $20
  • Flea Treatment for Cats (Provecta II): $20
  • Microchip: $30
  • E collar: $20
  • Cardboard Carrier: $20

CA Health and Safety code 121690 requires all dogs to be vaccinated against Rabies and obtain a license within 30 days of the dog reaching 4 months of age. A $20 licensing fee will be charged at time of drop off for all dogs that reside in our jurisdiction that are receiving our spay and neuter services to comply with CA Law.

By law, all dogs over four months require a current rabies vaccine and pet license. If your dog is not licensed, please be prepared to pay for a license on the day of your dog’s spay/neuter surgery.

All services are included in the cost of surgery. We do not charge any additional fees for pets with the following conditions:

  • Obesity
  • Pregnancy 
  • In Heat
  • Pyometra

*Funding for the Spay/Neuter Voucher program was discontinued by the City of San Diego at the end of June 2025.
