FAQ
Who is eligible?
Our Community Veterinary Program is dedicated to keeping pets out of the shelter and with the people who love and need them. We provide affordable, compassionate and exceptional veterinary care to San Diego community members most at-risk of surrendering their pets to the shelter for financial reasons.
Eligibility requirements for our services include: Household income under $70k/year and/or proof of enrollment in SSI, SNAP card, SSDI, WIC, pay stub, other federal/state assistance or unemployment benefits.
Why is the Community Veterinary Program so important? In the U.S., 70% of homes include pets. Even though pets are part of so many families, nearly 50 million pets in the U.S. aren’t able to access even basic veterinary care. Due to cost and other barriers, pets in under-resourced communities often don’t receive essential veterinary services. This can lead to health problems for pets, as well as pet families facing the heartbreaking decision to give up their animals because they can’t afford the veterinary care they need.
San Diego Humane Society is committed to helping people access affordable veterinary care, in order to keep them healthy and out of shelters.
