SAN DIEGO — While many were celebrating Valentine’s Day with flowers and candy, 25 San Diego State University (SDSU) student-athletes, spent their holiday paying it forward to the nearly 1,200 pets in care at San Diego Humane Society.

SDSU student-athletes representing soccer, cross country, basketball, swim & dive and football provided critical support to shelter operations. Their efforts will directly impact the animals through:

  • Nutritional care: Hand-crafting 460 meatballs for canine enrichment and afternoon snacks.
  • Shelter logistics: Folding two massive bins of laundry to help ensure clean kennels for 700+ dogs.
  • Adoption readiness: Preparing 100 adoption packets to help transition pets into their forever homes.

The student-athletes also participated in a Valentine’s Day-themed photo shoot with several shelter dogs, helping highlight the 713 dogs currently waiting for a second chance. To learn more about San Diego Humane Society’s adoptable pets, please visit sdhumane.org/adopt.
