SDHS Partners with Humane Society of Imperial County to Help More Animals

SDHS Partners With Humane Society Of Imperial County To Help More Animals

We’re partnering with the Humane Society of Imperial County (HSOIC) with monthly transports to help more animals in the Imperial Valley. On Oct. 26 and 27, 2021, we transported 18 dogs from HSOIC and 17 of them found homes within days.

“There is clearly a demand for these pets in San Diego County,” said Dr. Gary Weitzman, president and CEO, San Diego Humane Society. “We are happy that our partnership can relieve some of the pressure on shelters in Imperial Valley and help pets find their new families a little faster. It takes a village in animal welfare and we all have to work together to save lives.”

The Humane Society of Imperial County already collaborates with the cities of Brawley, Calipatria, El Centro, Holtville, Imperial and Westmorland. When lost or stray animals from those cities are not picked up by their owners, they are transferred to HSOIC. From there, they are adopted into homes or sent to rescue groups, like San Diego Humane Society, outside of the Imperial Valley.

“The HSOIC staff and volunteers are immensely grateful for the genuine concern that SDHS has for the homeless pets in our care,” said Devon Apodoca, executive director, Humane Society of Imperial Valley. “Here at HSOIC, we strongly believe that happy, healthy and adoptable animals should never be euthanized for time or space constraints. Our partnership with SDHS has given so many unwanted and forgotten animals a second chance at finding their happily furever afters. Their support helps us save lives!”
