Canine Safety Training for the Workplace
Did you know that more than 40% of all households include at least one dog? If your job requires you to be in the community, it's highly likely you will encounter dogs on a near-daily basis. Folks in many lines of work — including delivery drivers, service technicians, utility workers, park rangers and social workers — will frequently interact with dogs, both loose and leashed, so it’s important to know how to remain safe in any situation.
Most of our interactions with dogs are safe and unnoteworthy — but there are times when humans and dogs just don’t understand what the other is trying to express. This miscommunication can result in a bite or worse. Knowledge and training can reduce your risk of injury and decrease stress for both humans and animals.
San Diego Humane Society offers training for you and your staff to better understand how animals communicate, how to proactively assess your environment to stay safe in a variety of situations, and how to respond if things become escalated or potentially dangerous.
Our interactive Canine Safety Training for the Workplace presentation is offered in-person or virtually. We will discuss how to read nuanced dog body language and how to use your own body language to de-escalate and manage interactions safely. We’ll also address environmental awareness as it relates to proactive safety and management as well as in response to potential interactions with a dog. This content can be customized for your employee’s specific roles, existing company policy or other needs.
The training is approximately 1 hour, including 15 minutes of Q&A.
