Protect Your Pet from Fleas, Ticks and Other Seasonal Setbacks
No Fleas, Please
Not-so-fun fact: San Diego has more fleas than any other city in the country. Don’t let your pet fall victim to these bloodsuckers this spring. Regular brushing and bathing go a long way in preventing flea infestation, as does washing pet bedding. There are many products on the market that keep fleas at bay, including flea collars and topical treatments, but oral medications are the most effective against fleas (and ticks and heartworms!). Not sure what to get? Ask your vet for a recommendation.
Ticked Off
Dogs that spend a lot of time outside in warmer weather are especially prone to tick bites. Stick with a routine of flea-and-tick-busting medications or topical treatments. Check your pet for ticks daily and remove any that you find right away.
Snakes in the Grass
It’s springtime in San Diego and rattlesnake season is just getting started. When out and about with your pet, keep him leashed at all times and don’t veer off the beaten path. Stay alert, and keep a list of nearby animal hospitals just in case.
