A word of thanks to our community

During times of disaster like our recent Lilac Fire, I’m overwhelmed by the way this community comes together to help each other and animals. We’re astounded by the offers of help that we received.

Your support allowed us to:

  • Care for 460 displaced animals at the American Red Cross shelters and our campus locations, including nine horses, a turkey and 600-pound potbelly pig.
  • Evacuate nearly 200 animals from our Oceanside Campuses in the middle of the night when the fire got too close for comfort.
  • Distribute the donations of water, food, blankets, beds, crates and towels that hundreds of you brought to the temporary shelters and our campuses to help care for this sudden influx of animals.

During a time when so much was lost, your support of our rescue efforts was invaluable and inspiring for fellow San Diegans. Not only were hundreds of animals’ lives saved, but pet owners had peace of mind knowing their animals were taken care of – a priceless gift in the face of disaster.

I know many of you were personally affected by the fires, and our hearts go out to you for any loss you’ve suffered. In the wake of this terrible fire, I hope you, your family, friends, neighbors and animals are now all safe and sound. And please know we’re here for you if you need us.

We moved the “Oceanside 200” back to Oceanside earlier this week. Today, our Oceanside Campus is back open, and we’re working to get the last few animals back to their families, where they belong. You’re the reason these families will be together this holiday season, and for that, we can’t thank you enough.

Gratefully,
